To evaluate the lateral capacity of traditional wooden structural frame, experiments and FEM analysis were executed and compared with the capacity model of Suzuki. 2 bay wooden frame was made and experiments were executed. For experiments, lateral loads were applied at joints for two cases of 5 and 10 kN. Also, numerical analysis is performed using FEM for the experimental model and 3 other models, which are Sudeoksa Deawoongjeon, Bongjeongsa Deawoongjeon, Hwaamsa Gukrakjeon. From the comparison of experiments with FEM analysis, it was shown the FEM analysis could estimate the lateral capacity well and overestimate the initial strength more than 30%. And from comparisons of FEM analysis with the existing Suzuki’s model, Suzuki's model might overestimate the initial stiffiness because the initial stiffiness of Suzuki's model depends only on the axial force and height of column. Using the results of analysis that the initial strength is proportional to the embedded length, the model for lateral capacity was modified. |
