This study is supposed to find problems of the representation of traditions, regarding the representation as a symbolic expression such as giving meanings and conveying meanings. Those problems are caused by designers on giving meanings when they design a certain outer place. So, patterns of problems are revealed through visual materials that convey design meanings. This is because contents of the study are divided two parts: representation process and analysis of the representation. Six apartment complexes are selected for this study to find out problems caused on the way to represent traditions. Several useful results obtained from this study are shown as follows.First, the analysis contents of the representation process are divided validity of the design concept, property of meaning connection on the specification process of the concepts and unity of concept arrangement. Second, this study is supposed to evaluate keeping original forms, imitation, and changes in the representation patterns of the landscape facilities by dividing function, shape, materials in the patterns of representation analysis. Third, there are alternatives for traditional representation through the study.In conclusion, representation techniques by designers are important to linking decision of the design concepts, connection from traditional factors to design motives. Designers should study overall qualities of the traditional landscape factors and detail expression ways and construct creative basis of the traditional representation. |
