The purpose of this study is to clarify the structure of ‘Ki-hak(氣學)’ by Hyegang(惠岡) Choi, Han-ki(崔漢綺), and to derive the implications for the school peace education centered on ‘moral education’ in its structure. For this purpose, the present ≪Life and Ethics≫ and ≪Ethics and Thoughts≫ textbooks were first reviewed in this study. It was also confirmed that the school's peace education described ‘peace’ within a limited scope, and that very few cases were linked to Korean traditional ethics. This study then identified the ‘Sim-ki(心氣)’ concept formed in our hearts by the action of ‘Sin-ki(神氣)’ leading sensory organs. It also described the system of ‘Un-hwa (運化)’ and ‘Dae-dong(大同)’ that Sin-ki, including Sim-ki formed, should follow. Finally, in this study, the implications of school peace education were derived from Ki-hak of Hyegang. School peace education should try to establish a mind for individuals to resolve conflicts or disputes peacefully. Peace penetrates ‘a state of peace in the mind of an individual’, ‘a state of no conflict between societies or countries’, and ‘a state of communicating with nature an forming a right relationship’. In order to achieve peace, intense investigation, reflection, and respect are needed. The contents related to peace found in the book written by H yegang can be used as materials for peace classes. |
